single speed conversion?
Hi,

it has vertical dropouts it has a 36teeth crank ring and i want to change the 8 gears into SS anyway i can do this without a chain tensioner?
cheers

Magic gear explained: The right combo of front ring and rear cog to get proper tension. Not a bad method if you have a few rings/cogs lying around, otherwise it can get outta hand. You can always file back the drops slightly if you get pretty close.

Forward components eccentric bottom bracket. Cheaper than an eccentric hub.

Why no tensioner? I use one on my trek and it's no big deal. just use your existing derailer.

Many threads are posted on this subject. I have a Trek that a local mechanic converted for me. He magically fit its vertical drops with chain/link adjustment. It is not impossible. I live in the mountains and everywhere is either up or down with lots of mash. This is probably my favorite bike for a couple of years now. It's just fun and I've had no problems whatsoever.
