Bianchi Pista pricing ?
I am shopping for my first fixed gear. Not a lot of choices in my area yet as the local shops haven't caught on to the popularity of fixed riding. Keep that in mind when responding instead of flaming...
Anyway, what is typical street price for a pista right now. I've seen lots of posts through using the search function where people are saying they got their's for anywhere between 5 and 6 hundred.
I want to buy one locally and support my local lbs but I'm being quoted $750 which seems really high. Hoping someone that has gotten one recently can give me guidance as to what is fair to counter with before I order through the web.
Thanks in advance.
btw- I'm in St. Augustine/Jax, FL

MSRP for the regular pista with drop bars and no brakes is $749.
https://www.bianchiusa.com/09_d2_pista_fix.html
Some shops add a brake, cable, and lever and either eat that cost or add it on. You also have to take into account the labor to build it (albeit not much) and the free maintenance that most shops provide (wheel truing, BB adjusting, hub issues).
The profit margins on bikes isn't that great. It's not 100% like clothing and regular soft goods.
The best deal I'd expect to find online for a current model year Pista is $700. $725 locally. But, if you order online you have do deal with mail-order if you have any issues. Issues to expect with a stock Pista are rear hub stripping and headset rattling.
Also, many shops offer something like 10-15% discount on any accessories when you buy a bike. So if you plan to replace the saddle, pedals, or whatever, that's a pretty good deal.
