cheap track bike
and yeas people i searched the forum for a thread that would help me, and i wasnt able to find anything. so can anyone tell me an alright site that sells a cheap track bike $400 - $500. and so thats its still a decent bike. remind you guys, i live in canada. and i have visited bikedirect.com, and they currently cant accept foreign credit cards. so im trying to find another good site.
this would be greatly appreciated. -skid on me |
I wouldn't go the cheap route if I were you
if you want a cheap bike, go to kmart if anything, invest in a quality rear wheel and throw it on a POS road bike with 'horizontal' dropouts...this is called a conversion a QUALITY rear wheel will run you anywhere from 200-400....better if you build it yourself from there...upgrade little by little |
Republicbike.com seems to be pretty nice?
|
i was reading up on republic bike and it says that there made of terrible material, and isnt that strong. and i was thinking about building it up myself, but it would cost like $700
|
oh, and if you don't have the time, energy, and/or resourcefulness to go the conversion route
then..yea...just buy a complete track bike...but...if you have the money to put down on something 'cheap' (high depreciation of value, low quality), then you should just buy something non-cheap you'll end up paying more for 'cheap'...trust |
steel IRO start from 650
that's about as cheap as I'd go |
This bike started out at like 209+39 shipping.. little by little have upgraded most everything but the frame.. I think I am up to like 500 now, with a brooks saddle and other campy parts.. but had a rideable bike the whole time..

no, someone stole my bars I was using, and the wooden bars are somewhat temporary, I just haven't found anything else I like. I cut a branch off of a tree in the back yard and stripped the bark off and cut it to size... I didn't buy them.

get a penn pal in the states and paypal them cash to buy you a BD bike, then ship it to you when it comes in. it will cost a few bucks, but you can get a BD for like $350, then probably another $50-$60 to get to canada.
|
+1 Get somebody in the states to pick it up and re-ship it.
Or, since the bike you want is most probably the Mercier Kilo TT, as it's the best track bike in your price range, send a question to questions@cyclesmercier.com and see if there's any way you can purchase the bike in Canada. If you know what size you need and have basic wrenching skills, there's no reason to pay another couple hundred to the LBS for branding and assembly. |

you could buy a used Bianchi Pista for $450 easy, forget what people say about them, they are really great entry level steel bikes and have awesome geometry that is as comfortable as it is aggressive, look into it
