cheap track bike
and yeas people i searched the forum for a thread that would help me, and i wasnt able to find anything. so can anyone tell me an alright site that sells a cheap track bike $400 - $500. and so thats its still a decent bike. remind you guys, i live in canada. and i have visited bikedirect.com, and they currently cant accept foreign credit cards. so im trying to find another good site.
this would be greatly appreciated. -skid on me |
I wouldn't go the cheap route if I were you
if you want a cheap bike, go to kmart if anything, invest in a quality rear wheel and throw it on a POS road bike with 'horizontal' dropouts...this is called a conversion a QUALITY rear wheel will run you anywhere from 200-400....better if you build it yourself from there...upgrade little by little |
Republicbike.com seems to be pretty nice?
|
i was reading up on republic bike and it says that there made of terrible material, and isnt that strong. and i was thinking about building it up myself, but it would cost like $700
|
oh, and if you don't have the time, energy, and/or resourcefulness to go the conversion route
then..yea...just buy a complete track bike...but...if you have the money to put down on something 'cheap' (high depreciation of value, low quality), then you should just buy something non-cheap you'll end up paying more for 'cheap'...trust |
steel IRO start from 650
that's about as cheap as I'd go |
This bike started out at like 209+39 shipping.. little by little have upgraded most everything but the frame.. I think I am up to like 500 now, with a brooks saddle and other campy parts.. but had a rideable bike the whole time..

no, someone stole my bars I was using, and the wooden bars are somewhat temporary, I just haven't found anything else I like. I cut a branch off of a tree in the back yard and stripped the bark off and cut it to size... I didn't buy them.

get a penn pal in the states and paypal them cash to buy you a BD bike, then ship it to you when it comes in. it will cost a few bucks, but you can get a BD for like $350, then probably another $50-$60 to get to canada.
|
+1 Get somebody in the states to pick it up and re-ship it.
Or, since the bike you want is most probably the Mercier Kilo TT, as it's the best track bike in your price range, send a question to questions@cyclesmercier.com and see if there's any way you can purchase the bike in Canada. If you know what size you need and have basic wrenching skills, there's no reason to pay another couple hundred to the LBS for branding and assembly. |

Nashbar has a fixed gear for $400, i think they might take a canadian CC as well. so does Performance bike. i don't think the OP has really done any googling...
|
i google like theres no tomorrow

you could buy a used Bianchi Pista for $450 easy, forget what people say about them, they are really great entry level steel bikes and have awesome geometry that is as comfortable as it is aggressive, look into it

i would be willing to help you out. i am not going to take a loss at all, nore will i look to make money off of you. just the exact amount of money i would pay if i buy the bike and ship it to you. i would definitely want the money to order it before i put a bike on my credit card. and you can send the shipping charges later (i could find out exactly how much it would cost to ship it to you then let you know how much to send) i would ship fed ex, i can ship from my part time job. ground would be the cheapest for you, obviously. i am not sure about international, but it cost me $28 ($27.7X) to ship a 29 lbs(13.1541787 +kg) complete bike from Pennsylvania to California. i know it may sound shady, but if you are interested in some help PM me. you can feel it out if you want to. if you want to get an idea of shipping it would ship from US Postal Code 18704. |

Where in Canada are you? Pinkbike.com and CanadianCyclist.com have classifieds sections with most of the listings being in Canuckistan...

I commute daily on a 2007 fuji track. Found it used for $350 and I've spent less than $100 on it since. New bars, clipless pedals I already had, new seat off my brother's bike when he got a Brooks for Christmas, and a new chain. I love it. I've seen a few of them out there for cheap... not sure about Canada but worth looking. Good luck!

There are a lot of routes you could go if you want a cheap fixie. I did a conversion just recently. I bought a '70s Bianchi road bike $140, slapped a mut headset on it, got a Shimano cartridge bottom bracket $25, old handlebars, a sweet old san marco seat $20, weinmann Black Deep V $150, took apart an old road bike crank to make it single, you get the idea. In total, it cost me about $450 and it is way nice. When i get some extra money I will put a Chris King headset on it, but other than that it is a great bike. Definitely do a conversion.
P.S. mine still has braze-ons from the shifters and brake cables, etc. This doesn't bother me, but if you do a cheap conversion, you might have to deal with that unless you wanna sand them off |
