My singlespeed
I took an old Concord Gran Fury and converted it to a singlespeed. It's my first one and so far I love it. After buying all the parts, paint, handlebar tape, brakes, and tires, it cost me just over $100. I'm a rookie at this so let me know what you think.

you need to take a link (or a few) out of your chain, and adjust your saddle so that it is perfectly level, possible even pointing slightly up

And what's with the rear wheel axle jutting out so far to the right like that?

Yes, I actually did have most of the pieces already. My parts bin still contains a King headset (new), various Campy carbon road goodies, a Sugino Grand Mighty crank, bought originally for my Nagasawa, never installed, and currently saved for another NJS build that will be done next week hopefully, some Nitto bars and stems, several sets of new tubular tires, a couple sets of Campy brakes, and many other small parts including new Phil, EAI and DA cogs. Some of my builds have been a long time in the making. Other times, I find a good deal on something and decide to get it because I know eventually I will find a use. If I know I won't have a use for an old part, I give it away to people locally who are looking for just that part.

Krusty--I am seriously jealous.
I have a question, though. Presumably you have a decent amount of $ if you have all those parts, so why have a "beater" bike (not that that bike is even a beater)? Why not just ride an NJS bike everywhere? IF I had enough money, I would. I'm sure it would still suck to get an NJS bike stolen, but it wouldn't suck as much for you as it would for, say, me.

I absolutely love vintage bikes as well. A well-preserved or restored one is to die for. Someday, my NJS bikes, because of their history, will become like those old Italian racers are today. I will ride them, but would like to see them in good condition 30 or 40 years from now to pass on to the next generation. I don't expect them to be worth $, you understand. I just like to see well built, stylish old machines in beautiful condition.
I am fortunate to have a lot of seniority at a recession-proof job that pays exceptionally well, so I can afford parts as I find them. I realize there are enthusiasts locally with less resources, so I would prefer to pass any parts I don't need on to them for free instead of dealing with the CL vultures who would take any good deal I offer, then turn around and resell to those same enthusiasts for a profit (I hate the CL vultures).

I never posted pics of the final outcome of my ss/fg build from last year.
This was a month ago after I put on a new/old crankset from my Kona.
Now, to beat the flaming...
My rear fender is like that because of clearance issues.
The bike is not clean because it is my rain/commuter/bar bike, and yes...I actually ride it in the rain/snow.
Cheers!
Edited to add: The inspiration for this was the EZLN.

He most certainly is. My s/s mtb is very happy with the raceface next carbon forged crank, ring and b/b that Krusty gave me.

Well, I love all 7 of my bikes, and the loss or damage of any one of them would make me really unhappy, even if I can afford to fix/replace it. The beater is just simply the bike that took the least effort and $ to put together. It's the one I have the least invested in emotionally as well. My 2 NJS bikes, and my Wilier Pista are intended for track use (and do see the track), but do see a bit of street use too. I can lock any one of them up where I work and not worry about theft (heavily armed guards and serious security measures), so I can and do ride them to work, but I wouldn't lock one of them up downtown for >30sec without being right there all the time. I need a bike where I wouldn't worry so much.
