Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Careful with those, heard that the lockring tool doesn't work with dura ace lockrings/cogs because some are recessed, and the part of the chain that sticks out won't let the spanner be flush with the lockring.

Defeet socks (like picture but with thin red stripe also), and Topeak Joe Blow sport II. Performance was having a sale, so $40 for the two. everything i own matches my bike! white/red/black is easy i guess (helmet, jersey, shorts, now socks..) Oh, also some new steel chainring bolts (bells bike shop $7!)

Gloves, shoes, pedals/cleats, possibly saddle coming soon!

The socks are sweet! Although I totally think IMO that, that graphic should be on a helmet where it's more visible!

I will not fall... I will not fall... Who am I kidding, if I can fall with straps, I'm definitely taking one for the team in these. But at the same time, I feel as though I have the release nailed down...its just remembering to unclip and push my weight to the right side (which is how I ended up falling with my straps)

Getting in/out of straps is 10x's harder than clipless once you get used to it. Ride around on grass and keep clipping in and out til you get the hang of it.

I've gotten the hang of it, and I've set the tension as low as it goes... but I can still imagine clipping out and balancing the wrong way and Ka-Flop onto the ground... Either way, isn't it a right of passage to fall?

I didn't fall the entire first week I rode on them, then once I thought I had the hang of it I tried to track stand at a light....fail on my part.

I actually just bought MKS half clips today cause it's pretty flat here and I have a front brake... but mostly because I suck at clips/straps and am totally afraid of falling over haha.

find a nice grassy field, hang out with your friends, and just clip in with straps and fall over a few times. like once every five minutes for an hour or so. make it a drinking game or whatever you want to keep it interesting and fun instead of embarrassing. when you fall, try to roll your body out and down like kneading bread. seriously, it will help you get over your fear and come in handy when stuff happens beyond your control and makes you fall.

half clips are total bull**** anyway.

every time i see someone with half clips I think of blogging about it bsnyc style.

disc, spok, veep. nicely done. that last one looks like it could be a phil, but i'm also pretty bad when it comes to cog recognition.

You are.... because it's not, the surface of phil cogs are entirely flush minus the inset for the lockring.

On topic, just ordered a pair of these:

Because sidi's are a bit too awkward to walk in through the day.
Hopefully they last longer than chucks

Half-clips aren't meant for riding fixed and are as good as having no foot retention. It's the strap that secures your foot - not the clip.

Yeah I know, but I mostly don't encounter hills, bike pretty leisurely, and have a front brake... so they should be fine for me. I just wanted the clips to keep my feet in place.
