Considering that mine just exploded when it accidentally fell on the floor, what do you recommend as far as minimal effort chain cleaning goes? That is aside form taking it off and taking it to the solvent tank.

Seriously, is that a really bad chain cleaner? I've never used one that style before at all and figured I'd give it a try... do they all suck, or that one specifically? Better recommendation?

They're all bad. If your chain is so filthy that you need to deep clean it, just put it in a jar full of mineral spirits and shake vigorously. Then again, if it's that filthy you probably shouldn't let it get that filthy to begin with.

I just give em a shake in a 2 liter full of paraffin, let em sit over night, and then hit em with some Chain L.

Bikes: N+1

Since my new Panasonic has tubular rims and tires I have decided to go with it and ride sew ups. We have a bunch of tubular rims and a couple wheels at the co-op because people donate them and then nobody touches them. I was hesitant to go with tubulars because I dont need another project now to spend more money on. To clear up some space I picked out a Mavic GP4/Shimano 105 wheel and two Deep V tubular rims (Pro Elite, as on their site), all for $15.

I have one I bought a while back. it works well enough - particularly if your chain is real nasty. However, if you maintain your drivetrain by wiping it down and lubing it regularly you probably won't have a need for it. It also is not a good tool to use indoors as it tends to drip a bit.

Well I'm jelly. Hopefully your luck is better with tubulars.

Yeah, I plan on using it mainly to clear mud and wet sand out of the cogs + chain on my mountain bike after taking it on this particularly messy and sandy route that just destroys it. I normally keep my drivetrains pretty clean with just a rag and oil after every couple rides.

Bikes: road, track, mtb

i wipe w water, then 100% isopropyl alcohol solution (rubbing alcohol)

70% works alright (the kind u buy at the store) but i just take cheap 100% IPA from work and it works wonderfully

I've got some 95% IPA I typically use for this sort of thing, works really well. I put the 531 decal on my lady's Trek and it was real easy. Keeping the tube wraps bubble free might be harder.
