Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

BMX Trickery on a fixed gear...

Can someone explain the appeal of this? Instead of watching videos or looking at pictures of people riding fast in urban areas, all I see now is the uprising of flatland style BMX riding on track bikes? What am I missing?

For those of you that DO these kinds of tricks, what is the benefit of a road-style bike instead of a BMX bike? Is it just because it is a fixed gear and not a free-wheel? And if so, cant you just make a fixed BMX bike?

I don't partake in any of this trickery, but I understand that different things appeal to different people.

it's a challenge

you can do different tricks that you can't do on a bmx bike

some of us already had fixed gear/track bikes and just like to mess around on them and it catches on

Most people use the same bike to get around town as well as tricks. I don't know about y'all, but I can't dig on riding a BMX long distances. FG seems a better choice if you want the best of both worlds.

Yes, art is doing something dangerous with style and bicycles are capable. Thank you.
