buy a bd bike and use the extra 200 to replace out uncomfortable/crap components

at first i wanted to get a pista so bad. i didnt and rather got a motomess. after spending about the same amount the pista costs i have a bike thats comfortable and excellent to ride. personally i am much happier i went with this route rather than paying for that pretty "bianchi" name

One thing to note between the motomess and the kilo is that the motomess has braze-ons for the rear brake. If you're going to run just a front brake or brakeless, you may not want that.

"and they are made by Bianchi!"

are they? Or are they "made" by the same Taiwanese factory as everybody else, and "marketed" by Bianchi?

Let's agree that a great number of the current mass-produced steel frames are close to equal in quality. If I were in th OP's shoes, I would research the componentry of a stock Pista vs. BD.

I certainly share the opinion that a Bianchi Pista looks better than a BD bike, but that's simply a matter of color scheme/logotype/graphics etc.. Like every other individual, you just have to prioritize what is important to you in a new bike, then make your decision.

Here's the deal, you can get a relatively good bike for a great deal used. I was able to get a Trek T1 complete with upgraded parts for $550 off ebay. That bike retails brand new for $1100. There are definitely some deals to be had, but it takes a bit of looking around a lot (I know it's a contradiction )

Hello all, new to SSFG, does Republic Bike make good fixies?? I've been riding road bikes for a while now, and was wanting to get a fixed gear or single speed (preferably one with a flip flop hub) to help train and to get groceries and such. Plus it would be another bike, at thats always a plus.

So I went to my LBS as suggested for my first SS/Fixie and got a good deal (at least I think so) on a '09 Specialized Langster Seattle for $599. I liked how it rode and i like the looks and feel also. But I was wondering if anyone has any suggestion on what they would change out on this bike. You can do a quick google search and view what the seattle langster looks like, its the one with the fake wood grain fenders. The bar tape has to go, its cheap and gets very dirty. The saddle I think it next, its white and already dirty and not to comfortable. I am also thinking of changing out the handle bar to a straight bar chopped, and getting a brookes saddle. Other than that I am satisfied with the bike. The frame takes some getting used to, but its not a bad bike IMO. thanks for all the help and suggestions.

throwing my 2¢ in for the motomess.

better options, you can run it fixed, or singlespeed, and has the brakes. Let's face it, if you're looking to get into something, why spend a lot of money?

It's been said in other threads the Bianchi Pista is very ubiquitous. If you don't like the paint/decals on a BD bike, cover it in stickers or keep your eyes on the road.
