I can't afford toshi or mks. Are these any good?

If you really need some inexpensive but decent double-straps, I would try the Errebi Sprint's. A picture is here. I would avoid those Exustar.

Now take this for what it's worth... not much... I just find it odd as someone new to the scene, that the best straps are leather and that it costs $100 for a reliable pair.

Seems like a decent synthetic should have been developed by now, I mean.... straps aren't new tech...

Like I said, This is just more of a noobie jabbering on thing... just seems weird.

the key with the toshi's is that the suede is super durable, and the nylon keeps the form of the cage, therefore making entry and exit easy.

you get what you pay for, toshi's work great and are super durable (rain or shine)

those don't stop the cheap leather from stretching, or make the buckles hold tighter...

Oh, the colorways!

You can also spend $30 on the soma or all-city double straps, and get two sets of the MKS nylon straps for $20. Never used Toshis but nylon beats every cheap to mid-level leather strap I've used.

how did you come to conclude this? have you had a set of the toe clip covers?

I didn't realize it took a college degree to make that inference.

It seems nearly a priori knowledge that those wouldn't make the buckles hold tighter or keep the leather from stretching.

Perhaps I misunderstood the younger gentleman who told me that these strap cozies were "hella tight".

Never used Soma's, but Errebi's were complete garbage for me. Buy Toshi's and never look back.

they're probably the same ones that came from the sunlite steel clips i got. they're pretty bad, after each ride i'm fiddling with the clips to get the right tightness. I know you're supposed to cinch them down and loosen them, but whatever. I ride (as I presume most people do) with them at a preset tightness where I can slip in and out and not adjust the straps.

so yeah, either the clips are slipping or it's stretching like no other but there's quite a bit of play after every ride. Definitely gonna go out looking for new straps.

i just started using the single soma leather straps...they seem to hold fine so far, i tighten them down when i hop on the bike and they stay that way
i did a 30 mile ride with a lot of hills this past sunday and they worked well
