47lbs Wheelset?

So I ordered a set of Deep V's laced to Milwaukee 4 Star Hubs from Ben's Cycle. The shipment says it weighs 47lbs. That had better be about 40 something lbs of packaging... Any ideas?

Could be the dimensional weight. Most parcel services (fedex, ups, dhl) start calculating based on dimensional weight once the package gets above a certain size. Either way, that's going to be a hell of a charge for shipping. Hope you didn't choose overnight!

That's exactly what it is...I work for one of express companies..It's dimensional weight...

That's the reason frames and wheelsets cost more to ship..It's not the weight, it's the size..

A rough guide to calculate dim weight is to take the length X width x height divided by 166..If that number is greater than the actual weight, that will be the chargeble weight

In your case, approx wheelset box is 28 x 28 x 10 /166=47....

you should've got everything locally and built it yourself.

how much was shipping? i wonder if this is one of those situations where an LBS would've come out on top.

I received a warranty wheel from Easton, the box was shaped like an enlongated diamond, and was just under the magic 86" (or whatever) girth plus height. Shipping cost was $4. Those guys are smart, even in their shipping.

That would be interesting to rock as a training wheelset. Of course, I pity the fool who tries to stop it while riding brakeless.
