Stripping paint

So I have been reading as much as I can, and used the search function. I just got a new bike for my girlfriend, and everything needs re-done on it. I've overhauled the BB, cranks, headset, hubs, etc, etc, etc.....It's going to be really sweet once it's done. And now I'm to the point where I need to strip the paint on the frame to get it ready to be re-painted.

Most of what I have read said a good way to strip paint on a frame is to use a wire brush wheel on a drill. I am trying that with a course rated brush, and it's taking FOR EVER. Anything I'm missing? Should I be using paint stripper in conjunction?

By the way, whoever said to use WD-40 and steel wool to refurbish old silver parts is a damn genious.

Options:

sandblast
angle grinder + wire brush
sandpaper + elbow grease
paint stripper

How bad is the paint?

If it somewhat intact and you are going to rattlecan it, just sanding the existing paint to cut in and smooth out is all you really need.

Stripper is nasty and a mess.
Angle grinder + wire brush can be hard on thin tubes.
Sandpaper + elbow grease takes forever.
Sandblasting is expensive (depending)...

Also, steel wool + chrome can be bad. Make sure you are using the finest stuff possible. Buffing with proper compound will produce much better results.

The paint on the frame is horrible at this point. It's a single speed from the 1960's, and it looks like no maintenence has EVER been done.

There's rust on the frame in quite a few spots that needs to come off as well, so I think that bringing it down to the bare frame is the way to go.

Using that aircraft stripper.....Do you just put it on and then let it sit and wipe it off, or do you put it on and then use sandpaper or something?
