Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Purchase advice

I recently went to Amsterdam and rediscovered a love for biking!! I want to buy a single speed bike, and saw one I fell in love with - my only concern is the short fenders. Can someone please provide advice about this bike - are the fenders too short? Is it possible/recommended to replace these with longer fenders or should I just hold out and buy a different bike altogether (though I swear, this one is calling to me!!)

Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide!

Bikes: Miyata 210, Fuji Royale II, Bridgestone Kabuki, Miyata Ninety

Those fenders are crappy. You'll soak your feet up front and splash any poor sap riding behind you. If you like that bike enough, just get it and swap for full fenders. But it looks like you'd need p-clips, as I don't see fender eyelets, which would explain the short fenders without stays.

Out of curiosity, what's the appeal of this particular bike?

Thank you for your reply! The fenders are the only thing that bothers me about the bike. I love it for a couple reasons: it seems like the handlebars are well positioned and it has a retro look while being new (which means a newer, more comfortable seat).

My sister loaned me her vintage schwinn, which is so cool and I love it - except...the seat is uncomfortable and the handlebars are still low and far (since this pic, a longer stem was added, but they are still a bit far). She would be willing to give me this Schwinn, but I think I'd need to get a new seat, which I'm afraid would look dumb.

Any recommendations for me??
