eddy merckx alu pista
hey guys, i've been a long time reader. first off, i'd like to thank you guys for all the information on this board i've learned a lot about track cycling and the history. I myself have a pista concept that i love to take down to hellyer whenever i get the chance.
My uncle loves to go to the "drome" in encino and he offered me a great deal on his eddy merckx pista frameset with some added goodies (campy seatpost + deda newton stem + deda bar) for $800
^^^ that's what it looks like.
he says it's great and that he likes it a lot but now he wants a pinarello something and i dont want to turn it around and sell it to make a profit. i just want a good second opinion and maybe some technical information on this frame. is it superior to the concept? should i just keep my concept or get this merckx?
thanks guys

are you riding on the track? sell the concept frameset and any parts you want to upgrade, use the profits to build the merckx.

If the merckx fit I'd go with it.

What's so great about a Bianchi Pista Concept (or any other mass produced [strike]Taiwanese[/strike] frame) aside from the name on the sticker?

Well the bianchi has a geometry that I really like. The Merckx is made by a company I highly respect. The Merckx does look like a langster with Merckx painted on. I've held both frames in hand and the pista is lighter. However I was curious if the Merckx was stiffer.
I can't have both because I don't want something else I have to keep throwing money at so it can work haha

You can look at this way.......
Eddy Merckx still runs the bike factory, and has daily input. You are not only buying the name, the bike has Eddy Merckx's blessing.
Merckx will not be alive forever, get one of his bikes while he is still alive. After Enzo Ferrari died, the Ferrari as a marque was diminished ( some with no class might argue otherwise.......) but I feel that the name when associated with the living creator actually means something.
