Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Thanks

Yeah, I'm pretty used to brake levers being on the flat part of the bars, but I figured I'd give this a shot and see how I like it. It's a single speed. I thought the 2006 San Joses came w/ flip flop hubs, but I guess that only started w/ the 2008s.

Are there any clips in particular that'd work better than others? And where do you go for your bike stuff? Performance Bikes sucks balls.

It actually started with the 07s, as I purchased mine in Oct 06 and it was the first to have the 28h alex pista wheelset on there (and even came with a 17t fixed cog in place of the freewheel).
Here is mine with the pink aeroheads before the groupbuy IRO came in

Then back to normal once summer ended and I needed fenders and a little bit of fall/winter grip (even if pic was taken in spring with new lens).

But I am considering a change (internally geared) as I move to state college, PA this fall. I mean, what are hills really like for a boy from the flat lands of Illinois?

Hrrrrrrrrrrrrrm

Additional forum searching has led me to find that MKS Sylvans are pretty highly rated pedals. Thoughts?

I'd jump on another San Jose for $300, that's a great deal. Good choice!

Sylvans are okay. I run them on my San Jose, but am considering changing them. Being a track pedal, they have no grip and are meant to be ridden with a cleated shoe. My opinion might be skewed as well because of the crappy Dimension nylons straps I'm rockin', too. If you have $250 to spend on pedals (don't we all) get the White Industries pedals. I've never been so aroused by a pedal before.

I find Sylvans very uncomfortable, I liked the feel of MKS Gr-9s better but they can get really slippery in the rain.

+1
I'd recommend the Gr9s also--great, great pedal.

Did a quick ebay search and found these:

https://cgi.ebay.com/MKS-GR-9-Pedals-...QQcmdZViewItem

https://cgi.ebay.com/MKS-GR-9-Pedals-...QQcmdZViewItem

Whacha think? Seems cheaper than getting everything individually and assembling it.

Haha oh man.. I definitely just ran into a bush coming back from class cause I forgot my brakes weren't on the flat part of the handlebar.

Good times.

You'll be fine, but def keep at last a front brake on, even once you get more experienced. When I lived in U-District, cyclists came really close to getting plastered on my grille guard on several occasions. Just too many people/cars/buses/tight alleys/parallel parked cars, etc...

Its an awesome bike! I love mine and the Celeste Green color scheme just screams Bianchi! You can't go wrong with it as an all-round bike and not just for CX.
