ATLANTA: This weekend (6/6-7/2009) get Certified to Train/Race at the Velodrome
In order to train and/or race at the Dick Lane Velodrome in Atlanta one must complete a Certification course...even Category 1 road and MTB racers. Usually the classes are 4 consecutive Thursdays, but this weekend there is a special condensed 2-day session.
This class teaches the fundamentals of riding on the track, safely and progressing to more advanced handling. After the program, all riders are ready to race in Category D.
Some folks want to race at the track and some road riders just use the track for focused, measurable training without the hassle of dodging cars and potholes.
For those out of town:
There are folks that drive from Alabama and Athens weekly to train or race. It's the closest velodrome for hundreds of miles. Meet a friend and chill on the couch for a night in ATL to get your certification!
Saturday June 6th: 11AM - 3PM
Sunday June 7th: 12Noon - 2PM
The weather looks to be awesome.
Cost: $60.00 (includes loaner bike if you don't have a track bike). Pay via paypal, check, or cash.
Bring: Helmet. Also bring shoes and clipless pedals if you have a preference
For those with their own bikes: Track setups only. No bullhorns, no conversions, no brakes, no lights, no bells, nothing that can fall off onto the track. Mechanically sound bikes, please. You don't have to have "track" drops, simple road drops will do.

Haha, nice. If I knew I had the money coming in the next week then maybe I could get away with it, but I do not.
