removing color from rims?

I'm sure it's been discussed...I searched the forum but couldn't really find an answer...but I've got a set of black Weinmann Deep Vs and would like them much better if they were silver. Is there any non-ridiculous way to remove the color? I've used oven cleaner and a Brillo pad to easily remove anodization from stems and seatposts, but would this work for these rims without making a mess of them?

depends...

are they andonized or painted?

andonized I guess try oven cleaner

for painted rims use some jasco paint remover (do this with gloves/mask in a well ventilated area unless you want cancer). Then hit it with metal polish until you're at the desired shininess.

Weinmann DP-18s are all powdercoated, duh.

You can try Jasco -- I'm not sure if it can cut through powdercoat, especially the thick crap Weinmann bakes onto those rims. If not they will have to be media blasted.

Either way, you want to buy a tub of Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish. At that point the depth of reflection is up to your level of persistence -- schlepping polish on with a rag gets tiring quickly.

I figured they were powdercoated. In that case, I think I'll just leave them alone. They're only Weinmanns!
