Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I don't generally agree with laws that take place of common sense but I am happy that the police where I live are impounding bicycles without brakes but usually after the rider has done something stupid and illegal

good, fixies are horrible to have in cities.

I have a brake on my bike because I realized after years of riding brakeless just how many people I knew who were getting knee surgery

that and I am pushing a high gear and ride off road at times

As do I, but unfortunately I can't think of a more useful word to refer to all non-track-specific fixed gear bikes.

A 'fixed-gear bike'. A track bike is a track bike.

I also sometimes abbreviate it to just 'fixed', like 'I'm riding the fixed to the bar tonight'. Never 'fixie'.

Jesus Christ, You cant handle riding down Bardstown road without a brake?
Try times square.

Sometimes I ride like I have a brake.
Sometimes I have a brake.
Sometimes I ride like I dont have a brake.
Sometimes I dont have a brake.

I dont care if you have a brake.
I dont care if you dont have a brake.
