Huffy fixie beater project???
would that be too beater to start a project with?? next to free...however I doubt I could keep many of the current parts if I intended to ride it frequently....

it's fine, but a week or 2 hunting thru thrift stores, scrapyards and alleys would be nicer...score an ole schwinn letour or something...
i started with a schwinn traveller i bought from a scrapper for $5

I am not near any thrift stores at the moment....thats the only reason I would resort to getting this bike.....but I will be spending a few weeks in houston soon, where there are thrift stores and pawn shops on every corner....I'm sure I could find something better then....but it doesnt get much more beater than.....a huffy....
edit: its almost like its calling to me to make it sexy....

haha, my friend has that exact same bike... with the same neon green cable housing...xcept theyre 40x longer and kinda wraps around the entire bike... its such a piece that i dont think it would be worth it to fix

You could buy all the stuff you want to put on a real bike and put it on that one until the real bike comes along, but why waste the time and effort?
And bike thieves would probably steal it reguardless of the name on it.

actually I'm not worried about theft in the slightest, just looking to build up a super cheap fixie... and figured the huffy would work as good as any brakeless and sporting one gear....

I have a Huffy Superstar fixie that I use as my beater/towing bike. Its heavy as hell and rides like a tank. I use it when I need to keep my bike outside in a ****ty area at night or if I am going somewhere and I need to attach a trailer (usually carrying cases of beer). It does the job, but after getting my fuji track, I only ride the huffy when absolutely necessary.
if you already have the parts and you want to do this... why not. but I wouldnt spend any money on it. I agree with most of the other posts, wait until you find a nicer frame to even build up a beater, why waste money on something you will probably not enjoy riding... then again, I dont know the frame... so maybe it will be a nice ride. Dont worry about people making fun of it because its a Huffy... just make sure its worth the time.

Even that's probably more trouble than it's worth.
It's hard to tell from the photos, but it seems it may have already benefitted from a few upgrades. Possibly aluminum rims? The saddle looks racier than what I'd expect from a Huffy. and it's hard to tell from the angle, but those bars look almost like WTB dirt drops.
If the rims are indeed aluminum, I'd just rip off the freewheel (this most likely has a old 5 or 6 speed freewheel) and spin on a track cog. Keep both brakes unless you go with a real track hub (extra $$$ and hassle). Possibly change the front sprocket for a single. I wouldn't bother changing the crank out unless it was broken. You're not likely to find anything more reliable and functional than that one piece hunk of steel. Shoot some grease in the critical bearings, and ride it 'til it falls apart.
