new panasonic frames
 

for the life of me, I cant find the post again, but I came across a page where you can have a brand new Panasonic frame built and painted for you for 1100 bucks. they even offer to put your name on the frame in japanese! does anyone know anything about this? is this a scam, or are these really great frames?

If you need to ask about quality of the frame you prob don't need it.

I own an NJS Panasonic (the P.O.S. version) and it's like riding an elegant woman. The quality is what you'd expect for an NJS frame handmade in Osaka, with deep paint, cast crown, beautiful lugs, forged drops, and premium Tange steel.

maybe i'm crazy, but it just seems like so much money for a non custom built frame.

It's custom, you can get your name on it and ANY color you want!

It's definitely expensive new. That's why I recommend buying used if you can find one. I picked mine up for $400, size 53.

What am i talking about? This guy is claiming he is about to spend 1100 dollars on a frame he knows hardly anything about. I am all for people asking questions. Also I could care less how he spends his money. He just does not come off as some one with a need for this frame. If he was straight forward about his questions and did not contradict himself I prob wouldn't have said anything. Maybe I just don't understand stand his post and it came off the wrong way.

they are nice frames.

my friend got one ordered from bic camera in tokyo, i have ridden it, it's smooth and looks great.

it's cheaper to buy from a shop in japan, about $800 new, but i guess you have to pay shipping and cover commission charges.

I have heard( I may be completely wrong) that the people that can order these bikes for you in japan do not speak English. So it is nearly impossible to get them to sell one to you. Also if they do have stock its very low and most bikes need to be custom ordered, which would not be a problem since you need to wait for shipping anyways. I have always admired these frames, I just wish they were easier to come by.

Dude, and fellow junior member, I did not say that I was planning to spend anything. I just know from a friend of mine, (whos nickname was Panasonic, because he used to race them and swear by them) that the old ones were great. he loved them. All I'm asking is if anyone knows if the new ones are as good. Thats all. seems like a pretty simple, and may I say "straight forward" question.
I'm sure we can all think of many examples of things that are still made today, but are a far cry from what they once were, right? Take Marshall Amplifiers for instance.

That being said: I came across the Panasonics because what I want is a steel lugged frame. I was looking at Alien frames, and saw on this very forum that they are not well liked. Does anyone have any suggestions?

the shops always have some English speaking staff, the frames are custom ordered, so you would need to wait for it to be built though.

they feel a little different to the old track frames. I have a friend who rides an olf panasonic keirin bike (still has the stickers on it from the last race). I think the new ones ride much smoother.
