Your best and worst ride thread.
With all the talk of color matching tires to paint, best front tire for skidding, etc... thought this might provide some substance to the forum.
Worst: Bonked bad about 20 miles from home as I turned into a headwind. Spring ride, ~45F out. about 25 miles of road and some still-frozen snowmobile trail with slight tailwind. As I turned to go back home, the wind picked up and I started to get really cold (forgot windbreaker and just had a fleece). No energy, no bail-out gear, just 15 miles of mashing to an eatery for food and beer, then the uphill ride home. Made all of my -20F rides feel like a cakewalk.
Best: Tied between frozen creeks (even better at night with full moon), frozen bay at night solo, and solo centuries.
Honorable mention (best): First snow of the year while commuting, sat inside all day then it started snowing just as I left for 1 hour long ride home (at night), the fall smell + no traffic + 2 mile bridge + big white flakes is amazing.

Bikes: too many
worst: commuting to school and getting a big gash in the front tire of my raleigh 10 speed. i had a slime tube in there, which i'm sure helped me from getting flats, but the gash was so big i got sprayed with all this green ooze.
also tied with riding my old conversion back home in the first rain of the year. lost front tire traction twice turning left, so i road rashed on my roadrash for super pain.
Best: any time i'm not falling, the sun is out but not bearing down, the weather is about 75. or night rides when there's no cars out (Davis at 2AM feels pretty deserted)

Worst: BB was clicking, so I decided to go to this shop which is out of the way, but run by an ex-keirin racer, so worth it. Anyway, as I said its pretty far, and on my way I reach an area where I have to go against traffic, so I get on the sidewalk. I reach a section where there is a tree on one side and a guardrail on the other, here (in Japan) lots of business use these really tall flags to advertise their businesses, they are about 5ft tall by 1.5 wide, these are attached to the guardrail about every 10 feet. As I'm riding through this narrow spot the wind suddenly shifts and the flag flies directly toward me. I have bullhorns, and they get wrapped up and my wheel is suddenly perpendicular to the top tube. I fly over the handle bars, sprain my wrist and break my arm.
I ride back the way I came with one hand, and stop at a different bike shop to sit down for a while and have the BB replaced. They use the wrong BB and I struggle home with one hand.
Best: group ride through Tokyo while the cherry blossoms were blooming.
