just use it to be ironic next time, stop ted shred style and have front and rear brakes.

Did you put the gatorskin on the front wheel?

did you put all the gatorskins on the front wheel?

yes, doubled up on the tires; thought it would extend the life of the wheel. do i need one on the back as well?

I approve of this post's large quantity of laughing-sauce.

For future reference, any time you're jamming on the front brake make sure you lean back to counteract the weight transfer, otherwise... yeah, you know.

Also, I hate to ruin your expectations of something life-changing, but the whole "pure experience" thing is largely a bunch of pseudo-Zen crap touted by people like that guy who claimed that aluminum bikes feel square while steel bikes feel circular. The only time I feel unusually well-connected to the bike because of the drivetrain is riding VERY slowly alongside foot traffic where I can alter speed as necessary with my legs. While actually riding the thing, it's just a bike with one gear that can't coast. They look simpler, have fewer parts, and are easier to maintain, but a fixed gear bike isn't some kind of path to Nirvana.

This was awesome, so well put

Is there a gatorskin on the rear wheel?

You had it going there for a while, then just gave up here. Then again, people seem to be replying as if this never happened, so carry on.

No one replied seriously anyway.

ok ok, i'll be serious. yes, gatorskins on both wheels. it's all they had in 650c at the lbs and they last longer anyway.

Definately. More people need to practice skidding with the front brake while filming it for youtube though

the_don 08-06-09 04:28 PM

So bearded monkey.

Do you get it yet? and understand why people asked you if you had ever ridden a bike before???

because to anyone who has been riding bikes, pulling the front brake hard whilst leaning forward is a recipe for disaster. Although it can be fun on a mountain bike to control it and see how far you can nose wheelie.

If you want to know how to skid with just your legs, then you lean way forward and stop pedalling. If you want to skip-stop, you need to bounce the rear wheel up slightly (skip part) and lock your legs, but keeping your weight on the saddle (to get better rear wheel traction and stop better).

^LOL

these things said are correct dude. if you lean nuts to stem and jam the front brake, you'll flip every time. come on! leave that brake for slowing down, not skidding.

yes i get it now... i was asking for it. anyway i tried it on the grass today, figured it out and can skid on pavement now. learned my lesson, probably could have figured what would have happened had a stopped to think but... didn't. it made you all laugh though, right?

Johnny Nemo 08-11-09 05:10 PM

No... the replies made us laugh.

Oh ok, thanks for the clarification, dick.

Astronomical 08-11-09 06:50 PM

keep yanking on that lever, you'll get the hang of it.

etothepii 08-11-09 07:58 PM

I have to say that you are a phenomenal sport about this, considering some of the replies. I'm glad you got it figured out too. ;)

He's yanking something...?! :thumb:

jim-bob 08-12-09 02:39 PM

This is why I say that brakes are totally unsafe and better suited to cars than bicycles.

Astronomical 08-12-09 04:58 PM

You shouldn't be riding fast enough to need a brake, if you're going to go any faster why not just get a damn car.
