If a frame was 50 dollars.

With Grips it's 60..

How much would I be looking to pay to make the bike rideable.

So basically how much would I be looking to spend (basically as cheap as possible), to get wheels, tires, spokes?, and everything else (don't even know the names).

It's this frame, http://images.craigslist.org/3n63kd3...ae15c11a9b.jpg, and I'm thinking I want yellow wheels, with a white saddle and white tires as well if they're not expensive.

Please get back to me! Thanks Alot

loi 08-15-09 01:36 AM

crank/pedals
wheelset
saddle

dpc1192 08-15-09 01:42 AM

yeah so

could you let me know where the cheapest
-crank
-wheelset
- and saddle

can be found, and their prices? I'm trying to be as cheap as possible

loi 08-15-09 01:44 AM

cranks by lasco. 60 bucks? shun ones are even cheaper but even crappier.

700c wheelsets can range from 100 bucks -500 bucks. go buy a used set.

saddles by velo go for 16-20 bucks

oldfolksmashers 08-15-09 01:45 AM

Schwinn style seatpost = good luck finding a new seatpost and saddle.

Save another hundred bucks and buy a real track frame.

dpc1192 08-15-09 01:47 AM

sooo like 150 or so plus the 50 for the frame... so I'm looking at about 200 bucks for a fixie.

I asked the guy on craigslist if the frame would fit me, and he said that he was 6'0-6'1 and the 60cm frame fit him... well I'm 6'2 and hoping it will work.

loi 08-15-09 01:48 AM

the frame looks small. like a 52-56cm or something. if u're 6'0 u'd be better off riding a 57-59..

dpc1192 08-15-09 01:50 AM

he said it was a 60/61 cm is that too big?

dpc1192 08-15-09 01:50 AM

http://images.craigslist.org/3nb3k33...63e04d1fa2.jpg

would that be better at 59cm?

loi 08-15-09 01:54 AM

yeah. if u keep the cranks, u'll have to get a 3/32 cog and chain to match the roadbike crank. it'll be cheaper.

dpc1192 08-15-09 01:59 AM

how would you say the frames compare? or are they not comparable?

milkcratebasket 08-15-09 02:17 AM

if you havent already bought that bike, you should just buy a road bike for 75-125 and get a new rear wheel. if you already own that bike you should buy a road bike for 75-125 and buy a new rear wheel.

dpc1192 08-15-09 02:32 AM

well i'm having a very hard time finding a road bike in my area for that price, thus leading to me getting a frame.

yes yes yes. i'm surprised it took someone this long to say.

also, the blue frame is not a 52 or 56, i don't know where the **** that idea came from, it's at least a 58 if not a 60, and that red frame looks HUGE... 62cm or so. it's definitely the nicer of the two frames though.

oldfixguy 08-15-09 05:40 AM

dpc1192,

If you "don't even know the names" of the parts you need then you cannot do this project. Project bikes from scratch are never cheap unless you already have a spare parts bin and the know-how to put it all together. Clearly, you do not. Your lbs will help you with getting a safe machine and you can work with them on the really important stuff like the color of your tires and saddle.

time bandit 08-15-09 06:22 AM

loi is talking some BS.

no offense, but you should stop because this dude's takign you seriously.

1st off, the blue bike does not look like a 52-56, i dont even know how loi could even say that from a picture. lol
2nd, you can use a 1/8" chain and cog witht he 3/32 road cranks.

he really doesnt know what he's talking about, so ignore him.

I just found this on Craigslist. I'm sure if you look for a while you can find the same. This guy actually sells at a local flea market, complete bikes in good condition for $100. I paid $20 and if I added tubes, a tire, a chain and cleaned the drivetrain I could ride it.
