Ive got everything but a frame. Help me choose.

So i have everything to build a new fixed gear minus a frameset. My budget is 3-400 bucks for the complete frameset. What is the best frameset in that price range? I was looking at IRO, but i was also looking at doing it cheap and getting one of eighth inch's new v2 frames for 125 on a group buy. All my parts are black sans chain and bars, so i was looking at black or white frames.

IRO, BikesDirect, Performance, Nashbar all have frames in your price range. Surly and Soma are also available, not sure if they are in your price range.

I would get something off eBay or Craigslist or go yard sailing for a suitable bike or frame. You can get some really nice older road frames for less than $200 with Reynolds or Columbus tubing.

BikesDirect new TrackPro frameset.

$350. light, fast true track frame. (old Fuji Track pro)

The new trackpro frame isn't available until mid november. I need the bike asap. Anyone have any experience with leader 721tr's or 725tr's? They look pretty nice with the large downtube, and they are pretty light.

will those frames be branded?

from the new Leader thread, it looks like you have to apply the decals yourself.

Mr.jon 08-23-09 02:59 PM

What do you guys think of the leader frame? In my opinion it looks like a pretty good deal.

toosense 08-23-09 04:11 PM

a majority of my friends ride leaders(easily obtained in SD), and beforehand i have read that ALU frames aren't smooth etc etc, but from my experience the 725 was a lot of fun to ride, and smooth(carbon fork). i have heard that leaders have clearance issues in the back with the seat tube, but i am not too sure on that.

I think the 2008 model 721 frame had trouble with clearance, but they fixed that issue.

I shouldn't have to worry due to me getting a 2009 725. Now there is only one question left. All my components, 100 percent of them are black. Should i get a black frame, or a white frame? Also, should i shell out some more cash for a carbon fork?

LupinIII 08-23-09 05:20 PM

yes on the carbon fork

why not get a colored frame? just because you have black parts doesn't mean it has to be monotone. whatever.

722 green frame, cf fork and all black parts. done.

Mr.jon 08-23-09 05:25 PM

I'm not to into the flashy colors, and the only colors i have available to me is white and black. Do the frames come with decals installed?

LupinIII 08-23-09 05:32 PM

aluminum ones i believe yes. the new steel ones don't. they might have changed it up though.

Mr.jon 08-23-09 05:40 PM

On ebay it looks like you can buy one with decals for one price, and without for a few bucks more. I don't mind the decals though.

what fork? I assume the carbon one?

Mr.jon 08-23-09 07:06 PM

I haven't decided on a fork yet. Any tips?

itschrisb 08-23-09 07:13 PM

everyone is saying carbon if you have the money might as well you cant go wrong.

toosense 08-23-09 07:21 PM

definitely go carbon, you wont regret.BUT make sure to either get an ALU or steel steerer tube. if you are going to ride on the street, a carbon steerer would not be a good idea.

Mr.jon 08-23-09 07:22 PM

Ok. Why?

toosense 08-23-09 07:25 PM

because there are potholes in the street.it would be a bummer to hit one and snap that steerer tube(seen't it with my own eyes!), and it would also suck worrying about it while riding around.

Mr.jon 08-23-09 07:33 PM

That would blow. Just bought a nice carbon fork with an aluminum steerer tube. thanks!

toosense 08-23-09 07:36 PM

be sure to post pics when you get it all built up! have fun with it!
