Prefer my Bell BMX but it doesn't fit so well on my big fat head. Also have a Girro which fits better. Don't ride either unless I am riding in heavy traffic. Or on the bike trails where run-away roller bladers get in my f**king way.

helmets are dorky, uncomfortable, hot, annoying, and absolutely life saving. i always wear mine even though i feel like a tool with it on. i've banged it on the pavement a few too many times to ever go without it.

Unfortunately seatbelt does nothing in this situation, side airbags will though.

Actually, so will a helmet. It amazes me that cyclists (or worse - legislating non-cyclists) will espose the saftey-criticality of cycling with a helmet, then get it their car without one; completely ignoring the fact that MANY more head injuries are incurred inside motor vehicles than on bicycles (despite seatbelt use)

Actually, I had some friends back in high school who used to wear motorcycle helmets when driving around in their rusty old suburban, but it was mostly to amuse &/or embarass their friends and family.

i'm changing my vote to yay (at least on certain rides) after falling and hitting my head on the pavement this weekend through no fault of my own whatsoever. i'm alright, but it could have easily been much worse.

I avoid riding without one like the plague, one look at my burly old proteq bmx helmet will remind me with the quickness why I do, its covered, literally, in scrapes, gouges, etc. but still structurally sound enough to get the job done for bmx rides. for mtb or road rides I break out my equally old but luckily undamaged bell nemesis pro

I can't seem to find one that i like. Bell bmx helmets sit too high on my head and i don't like the fit of the classic Pro Tec. I would like to check out a Pro Tec - Ace Pro bmx helmet. They've got nice lines and look pretty lo profile. Any suggestions on where I can find one here in Chicago. I've been to most bike shops here on the north, near west and downtown.

After two really bad accidents in which my helmet most definately either saved my life or kept me from wearing a diaper the rest of my life I'll never ride without one.

Yay. A helmet has twice saved my son from serious head injuries.
For myself I really can't think of a good reason not to wear one.

Incidentally, I bought a helmet off eBay this weekend. A Specialized S1. Been coveting those for some time and I got an amazing deal for it. I've been feeling lately that I need to start wearing a helmet. Thus done and done.

ordered one from performance today, 8 hours after someone sent me that link. Went on tonight's ride skullcap-less and was paranoid i was gonna eat it and they'd have to cut out a good size chunk of my skull. Seriously considering leaving the bike in the garage till it gets here.
