Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Is this a good deal?

sorry if this is such a small fry question and wish there was a main thread for this stuff ("is this a good deal?" thread)

deep v rim + miche primato hub + dt spokes + crap white tires ("duro") + a little wheel hop + extra spokes/nipples for repair/truing = $100?

i had to get the wheel rebuilt for $ 35 bc the guy i bought it from built it up himself using his bike and brake. had a few cracked nipples and spokes.

is that a good deal?

he's also selling the rear (miche primato hub, dt spokes, deep v rim) which he also built himself, for $ 120. includes no-name cog and miche lockring (that came with the hubs) and some gum wall tires. i probably have to go rebuild them at the lbs too.

so that totals for $ 220 (f/r) + $ 70 (rebuild x 2) = $ 290.

am i getting crapped on?

did you buy from a guy like craigslist/ ebay or from a store?

if it's private, he probably won't take it back, he has not legal necessity to. if it's a store, they might take it back.

in either case, they will not pay for the lbs work. it would be hard to make them pay for it too.

yes, i got it off craigslist BUT i met him at his house. after i bought the wheel and took a quick inspection we went off our marry ways but next, next day, when i dropped it off at the lbs for a legit check, that's when the bad news came. called the guy i bought it from and told him the news, drove to his house, and he totally felt bad and gave me $ 20 back and some spokes/nipples (intially bought it for $ 120... yeah i knowww!!!!!). so now that i know he just ghetto builds it, the whole wheel must be f-ucked up.

he did say that if i didn't want it i could return it though. but f-uck!!! so annoying when people aren't really up front about ***** i guess that's craigslist eh?

all i wanted was to get a decent wheel set pretty quick and all i got was a janky ass wheel. ugh...
