I currently commute using a single speed (perhaps fixed in the future) old road bike conversion. The problem is the frame is a little large for me, and I'm having a hell of a time finding a smaller old road frame. I was thinking about maybe purchasing the Eighth Inch Scrambler frame. Whats the consensus on using the Eighth Inch as a general commuter bike? I don't really intend on doing tricks, or racing, just getting from point A to point B. Is there any reason why a track frame may be uncomfortable, or wrong (besides the uncoolness) for around town use? The only problem I see is that I may need to get clip on fenders if I use a rack, anything else?

I was in on the group buy and built it up as a single speed. I only commute a few miles but it's pretty nice to ride. It's pretty light and easy to get up your speed too.

i ride my scrambler everywhere, including commuting back and forth. its light, cheap, and durable. mines fixed but it would work just as well as a single speed. what more could you want

I commute about 3 times a week on the scramler v2. Not tooooo far. It is about 3.5 miles one way. The Eighthinch frame is awesome and pretty cheap

here's mine. Gearing is 46x17. It's perfect for where I live, but I don't have any steep hills or anything.

I commute about 20 miles a day, 6 days a week in SF, for the last year. You'll be fine.
