Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? adidas fixed gear sneakers

https://hypebeast.com/2009/09/fixie-adidas-samba/

just in case some of you were interested.

I'm loyal to nikes and boat shoes so I will not be copping these.

adidas are to release a sneaker for all you ‘fixed gear’ riders, designing a new Samba colorway. Slimming down the midsole slightly and moulding the entire upper for speed, these wheel turners come in two restrained colours complemented by an oversize tongue tag declaring ‘Slam the hammer down!’ alongside logos of mechanical gears. There is no word on a fixed released date, so keep checking here for more news!

i mean at least those tigers from a while back had fiberglass soles or something right?

Good lord. I guess I'm a fashion-backwards schmoe because I bought my Sambas to play indoor soccer. What was I thinking?

(And double **** yea boat shoes! I still have the pair of Topsiders I bought in '84. They're just getting broken in...)

So, they didn't stiffen the sole or notch it for clips and straps? Just changed the style? Lame.

I like my Stan Smith's... I've been wearing them since many of you were in diapers (and probably before that even) and will keep doing so for as long as they make them.

Best... shoe... ever.

Where? I normally see them for more than twice that; I'd totally get $20 Sambas...

I really do want a stiffened sole shoe, thin & narrow.
I notched my own indoor soccer shoes for the pedals. Helps with retention a little bit. I ride in addidas F5 for what it's worth.

I've worn slip on Vans fairly religiously since I was 12 and it will most likely continue....

With relatively flat-soled shoes, just cut a V into the rubber outersole with a good knife/razor, right where it sits over the grippy part of your pedal, across most of the width.
You can feel a small improvement in holding, actually.

I've had my black/white/brown samba with the long tongue since forever. Would not mind getting a new pair for $20 bucks!

So, you pay for expensive pedals and straps, and now cycling-specific shoes to go with them... anyone want to explain why this is preferable to just getting a clipless setup? It seems like all the cost with none of the benefits.

That is the stupidest thing I've heard in a while.

Then you don't look like a fixed gear rider. It's all about looking the part, man. Geez, get with it already. Welcome to 2009. Can't believe some people and their logic.

Yep, look like reg. sambas to me. I like to ride with slip-ons or similar slim laced shoes too. They are what I'm wearing most of the time and I feel most comfortable in them. It's hard to switch to clipless because when I get off the bike, I just want to be in my sneakers.

Those shoes aren't cycling specific. They may be stupidly overpriced, but I bet they are still more comfortable for walking around etc. than any clipless cycling shoes.
