Rocket Rings?
I searched the forum and saw a few references to Rocket Ring chainrings, but no one saying they like them, hated them, etc. Any one using these and want to offer an opinion? Or recommend another lower price chainring option - say under $50 -for a 130bcd crank? Thinking about getting a 46t chainring, and the Rocket Ring looks like a good deal (currently 42 x 17 with 1/8" chain). Thanks.

I faced a similar problem (130bcd and the 1/8 chain) and decided to go with a 3/32 chain istead which opened up endless possiblilities (makes the bike lighter too, a reason you see track racers using 3/32). I went with a sugino ring for $20 that has been great so far. I run a kmc z610 chain $15 which is as tough as any 1/8 chain. New cog will cost around 25. So a total of 50 bucks and a lot less headache if you want to change your ring again.

does your sugino ring have those wierd ramps in the teeth? i'd convert to 3/32, if only i could find a proper chainring, designed to operate shiftless. i have friends with ramped out chainrings that drop their chain from time to time. not too often, but it's never happened to me with my current set-up.

I had an issue with rocket rings. The bolts lined up but the ring didn't the fit on the lip (the part of the crank that the chain ring rests on? sorry forgot the name). I had to spend some quality time with my dremel to make it fit. It never fit quite right( gee I wonder why
)
Good luck

Nope, no dirty ramps or pins - just plain silver alloy.
But even if, a chainline that is a little off and a too loose chain will most likely be what is throwing your friends chain. if the chailine is straight and tight I don't think any ramps or pins could do any harm

Rocket Rings rock. Long lasting and a good price.
Cynikal - were you running your ring in the inner or outer position on the crank arm? I run mine inner on both a Shimano and a Rocky Mount crank and have no fit problems.

I've got a 110mm 46T Rocket and I am very happy, but I have neither enough experience with my bike nor with different brands of chainrings to tell you if it's really good or not.

Oddly, i was looking at a set of 165mm bullteproof cranks and a 44 tooth rocket for my mountain bike, i have 165 on my fixed and i like it. 44x18 will get me more where i need to be than my current 36x18x170

rocket rings are excellent.
inexpensive, easy to get, two different BCD. thick and strong. black and silver.
i've got 'em on three different bikes.
