TriSpoke

I'm trying to replace my tubular tire on my TriSpoke and I plan on using tape, so how do I get that old glue off?

You *CANNOT* use tape on a rim that has glue residue on it. The rim has to be *pristine*.

Which is why I'm trying to get rid of the glue?

Which is NOT possible. You will NEVER 100% get rid of the glue residue on the rim enough to use the tape. You might do it after a year of scrubbing and acetone. The tape is fail anyways. Glue is perfectly fine.

OMG, are you serious? So I can only put new glue over the old glue?

really? does it really matter if you put tape over 1% glue residue?

what if you use tape and get a flat, necessitating more glue tape. can you only use glue there too?

Yes. You can only use that tape on a *pristine* clean rim. If you can 100% clean your old rim of glue residue then i'd be fine. This is not easy to do.

you might try the cyclocross and track forums... they probably know a lot more about dealing with tubulars. operator sounds like he knows what he's talking about, but the rest of us are probably morons.

Cyclocross tyres are glued completely differently than road tubulars. Properly done takes almost a week.

what if i use cyclocross (it's probably the extreme, but the guy who sold it to me said he used it for cyclocross...) tufo tape? it'll be going on a new rim, but does it take longer to set up or whatever

guess i gotta go buy a tube of glue for my used rim... i'm afraid i won't be able to get it clean enough for tape. do you recommend vittoria or conti or other glue (my mech used tubasti or something, haven't heard of it...)

Like I said, I have a Trispoke with tubular rims. But I didn't buy it because I wanted tubular. I bought it with a used bike and it just so happened to be tubular.

And apparently cyclocross tubulars are different, so I guess I'll just find a tutorial and mount it with glue then? Anyone know any good glue for the job?

Ok, fine, I'm wrong. It still worked fine on all the tubular rims I've ever used.

Acetone will eat away at the resin in the composite. DO NOT use acetone.

Scrape off the excess glue with a plastic knife, scrub it down with some simple green or isopropyl, and put your tape on. Then, ride your bike and pretend this all never happened.
