Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Need A Little Help, Friends

OK so I'm going to be making my first sort of investment into a quality bike, I'm looking to get a flip/flop (I'll get gears when I'm 40) I'm working with about 600 smackers. I have been looking at the following bikes: GT "Gutterball"(09'), Mercier Killo TT, Felt "Brougham", Windsor "The Hour", Fuji Track and Raleigh "Rush Hour"(08'). Now the only place I've seen the Killo TT and the "The Hour" for sale is on bikesdirect.com and craigslist. I however am not a big fan of ordering things online. But am willing to make an exception if the bikes are really worth the headaches I'll get from waiting for the bicycle to arrive, and dealing with people on craigslist can be sort of a job in itself. i do plan on eventually making a few minor upgrades nothing major... probably just Handle Bars/Wheelset/Pedals/ maybe Fork... if i can later afford it. Also take into consideration that i am going to be riding the bike stock for a good while.

What would be the best bike to make the investment into?
I'm also open to suggestions. I have heard good things about KHS and Bianchi, though Bianchi's seem to be a little out of my price range. I live in Los Angeles and The LBS has it priced at about 650, the last time i checked. thanks a bundle I am sure I will get loads of help. so thanks in advance. - defnit
