Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Well I think it's the right way to do it, to get up and running asap.

The stripper is a good frame, I think it's the pretty much the same as my Masi Speciale Ltd, frame-wise. And it costs less than half of a good frame in Japan too. You can buy the nice parts you want, get a decent full bike to ride as you collect all the parts you really want and eventually buy the frame you really want.

Eventually I want to get a nice alu/carbon track frame. But I haven't decided on which yet.

So the new saddle is doing good? People hate on specialized a lot, but I think they do make good ****!

I googled Makino and this is what came up:

yeah I guess if I was in japan I'd get one of those. hard to find em for a reasonable price in the states though.

I've never been an NJS fanboy, in fact I've never owned a single njs stamped item other than a lockring, but the finish on Makinos have to be seen in person to be believed

Bikes: 1980's Melton track

i am terribly confused...

so pedigree isnt an important thing to me
(i know pedigree isn't necessarily the same thing as "brand name")
...

I like name brands, its just how i am. I like to support the real manufacturers as much as i can, independent brands, etc etc etc.
...

Frames are just names.

think of it like this
I'm not going to buy a frame based on a on how many races its won in japan, or how popular it is. When I buy a frame, it will be because I want it, and from a local builder, or reputable maker.

It takes time to find what I like. I don't want to do it like I do my cars and change them every 6 months. When I finish it, I want it to e perfect. So I'm taking my time to make sure it's right in the end

Have you considered moving the wheel so that the axle falls between the 'super tight' and 'super loose' points? It's always worked for me.

Every handbuilt frame I own I can put a face to. In half the cases, I've had a pint or something similar with the person that held the torch.
