Helmets!!

I'm not in the market for a new one or anything. I was just curious what kind of sweet headwear of the protective nature people are wearing in the fixed gear world nowadays. There are tons of original and sexy looking bikes posted all over this SSFG forum, are there any helmets out there that help complete the image? Pictures anyone?

If you do NOT wear a helmet this is NOT the place discuss it. And if you find this to be a stupid thread, don't post anything and it will soon be lost and forgotten.

I have a bern brentwood. Great for the winter, not so much for the summer. I think I'll get a giro atmos for the next summer.

i have a blue giro saros. i usually wear a cap under it and it works great. i like it because it sits kind of low on my head so it doesn't look goofy like lots of road helmets look on my head

Bret's hair helmet is probably the best thing ever.

I use a Bern Hardhat. its hot in the summer but perfect for cool weather since it has no vent holes

correct me if I'm wrong, but the hard hat is not a cycling helmet. Only the zip-mold ones are made for cycling.

what qualifies a helmet as a cycling helmet?

CPSC safety standards, but nothing is stopping you from wearing whatever you want

RubberDucks 10-13-09 04:47 PM

it certainly is much more protective than a cycling cap and I'm sure if it did come down to it it would protect my skull in an accident.

i've been pretty happy with my specialized propero. my old giro was so goofy looking i never wore it.

Lazer Timeless. Best helmet I've ever worn by far. The harness system makes it feel like it's floating over your head.

its made to absorb impact and worse case scenario, breaks. i dunno how people can wear skate helmets bc your head would just bounce on the ground. ouch

Bern for the fixed, Lazer for the road bikes. The Lazer fits like no other! Super comfortable and super light! I have a really long but skinny noggin and the adjustable roller fit is a really impressive piece of design, those Belgians know what they are doing

I have a specialized s works. I got it for 60% off so its in a lame color. It is very comfy, breathes really well, and according to specialized is the lightest helmet on the market. I would recommend it to any one that either finds it on sale or has the money.

Did "ze" germans take the spoiler off ur helmut?

Warning, stupid question and I do apologize..

But would a skate helmet of some sort suffice for riding a fixed. I'm looking at those prices for the other bike helmets and they aren't too friendly. Sorry, I'm a newbie at all this! Haha!

Haagenize 10-29-09 05:12 AM

most that use skating helmets wasn't about the price, it was about looks

you can buy a cheap cycling helmet if you like, whats your budget

oldfixguy 10-29-09 05:56 AM

Black Giro Semi here. Sits low and covers my nugget. Love it.
