headset play on langster comp

the headset on my langster comp has some back and forth play in it. when i ride, there's a rattle. i was wondering if there was any way to fix this?

loosen the stem bolts, tighten the headset bolt, then tighten the stem bolts.

thanks, that actually worked. before i was tightening the stem before the headset. saved me a trip to the lbs

You only want to tighten the top cap down to where the play is removed, if you tighten beyond that, you'll risk ripping the threading out of the start nut. Just an FYI I [stupidly] did that once.

or putting unnecessary pressure on your bearing races and deforming them.

tighten to remove play and no more!

Bikes: Visp with way better parts than a frame,2010 fuji track pro, motobecane phantom cross outlaw

and make sure you give hte fork a turn every once and a while when you are tightening, if it doesnt move freely, it is too tight

I remember when I first got my bike this was one of the first things I fixed on my own, I was so proud of myself. I think bikeforums helped me out a little too, so thank you bike forums!
