Do I need a new bottom bracket?

I'm turning a mountain bike into a single speed commuter. Ordered new cranks (origin8 something or the other single speed) because the left side crank is loose and wobbles. The bottom bracket looks fine, but how do I know for sure?
And if I need a new bb how do I know what length to get? Going to be running a 47 tooth chainring so it's pretty large.
Thanks in advance.

Did you try tightening the crank bolt down?

Sure did. The inside of the crank where it mates to the bb is clearly distorted and out of shape though so it did no good. So I ordered the new cranks. Just need to know about the bb now.

An AL crank is not going to wear out a steel spindle. You get new cranks, put them on and torque to spec and ride.
