We are working on a project at RISD designing products for bike safety.
We are doing research and need bikers to fill out a short 10 question survey so we can understand biking habits and usage.

Your response will be extremely helpful to our project!
Thanks so much!

Hmm.. is it okay if I didn't choose a state but put my city and country? I'm from canada.

Also, just curious as to how you're planning to deal w/ the data for the boxes ("How safe do you feel when riding," etc)? It may be too late now, but it would probably have been easier on you when collecting data to just force some MC categories on a Likert-type scale (e.g. 1-5, 1 being very unsafe, 5 being very safe)

Hope you're posting this in other forums too, otherwise your type of bike question will be heavily weighted towards FG/SS.

How safe do you feel posting and filling out surveys online?

i feel fairly safe when riding in urban areas since my safety is only linked to my capacity to foresee the other users unexpected decisions....

The only thing I fear while riding is catastrophic frame / fork failure at high speed.

I fear the land dwelling lazer walrus.

It can reach speeds in excess of 9000 miles per hour.

I don't know if this was serious or not, but I laughed.

Seconding expanding the feeling of safety question. There are too many possible riding conditions to answer that easily.

Getting "doored" is my worst fear. That and a fork failing on a fast descent.

edit: are you going to post the results when you're done?

Getting doored is probably #1 fear

Also depending on what part of chicago I am riding in, I fear getting jacked...I didn't used to fear it but that "Blood on my Long Haul Trucker" thread and the similar article linked to in that thread have made me worried.

I only fear getting doored when I'm riding too close to parked cars, which I don't usually do because I don't want to get doored. Taking a lane FTW.

What I fear are texting/cellphone using drivers that don't pay attention and teenagers/gangbangers that start violent ****.

Then don't ride near doors. It isn't that difficult to prevent dooring. Dooring can literally kill you if a bus runs over you. The way I see it, any place where doors are that close usually have lower speed limits. Just take the lane and be done with it. Who cares about everyone else behind you? If there is a bike lane or sharrows in the door zone, don't ride in it.

There are some angry mother****ers on the road down here...I stay a good ways away from the cars but some cars have really long doors (like a camaro) and idiot drivers who might throw them open wide all at once. On the other side are people driving way to close to get around you of you are in the lane...
