Any advantage to this? Is it for tricks?

I would assume so since I always see bikes like this with proper risers for barspinning and a thick fork.

Sounds like a cool hipster trend. I might do that on this old tall frame I have just so I'd be able to get on the darn thing.

Sounds like a great idea!
I really doubt that for a price of a 650 front wheel + selling a frame that didn't fit, you could actually buy a frame that fit.
