DIY spacer kit

I am converting a 9 speed wheel to single speed. Of course, I need some spacers to get the chainline right and not carry around 8 extra gears. Looking at prices for spacer kits, I was appalled. 20 dollars for some washers?
Anyone have tips for inexpensive DIY spacer kits?

Somebody correct me if I am wrong on this but I thought I read somewhere that you can use PVC pipe cut to the correct length. Supposedly you can find pipe with the correct ID. Hope this helps

Iv used copper pipe for headset spacers back in the day on my bmx. It worked great. They might offer it in the correct ID for a freehub body. Plus it would look sweet.

Bikes: Too many bikes, too little time to ride

pvc pipe if you know what to look for and can cut it straight. otherwise just get a ss conversion kit for ~$20 but sometimes they come with a tensioner as well.

Bikes: around 10 of various styles and types

PVC pipe works, i found its best to use a reducer
like this https://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.js...pr43wx&x=0&y=0
40 to 32mm fits over the body and even has an O ring to grip the free hub bit

take your wheel down the hardware store and start trying to put pipe on it
