Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

How old

I get the impression that fixed gear ridders are a younger group. Just wondered how old you guys are. I'm just getting into it at 49, but I'm not like many my age. I would think BMX and mountain are the youngest age group and roadies the oldest, just wondered where fixed fits in.

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.

Not sure where everyone else fits in, but I'm 28... A lot of the riders I see out here seem pretty young, though..

Good for you Jesse!! the world needs more of us! I have not been vegan all my life but I will be for the rest of it, it's been three years and I feel great, but I've always been told I could pass for much younger. Unless you don't know already, just be sure to get B12, and don't let the meat eaters bother you, your gonna hear a lot of hype, actually I don't let people know unless I have to, I get so tired of defending my actions. This fixed gear forum seems much more up beat than the road bike one. I've been a rodie for years and tried out a fixed gear at the LBS earily this spring and they almost had to pry me off the bike; now I'm hooked.

I am 32. My story is sort of the reverse. I was a vegetarian for the first 17 years of my life and I have been a white-meat eater ever since. I feel great too, and people tell me I pass for much younger. I am thinking of low calorie/complex-carbs diet ever since I saw a show on PBS. In any case, vegan is alright by me.

Bikes: a bunch

I'm 48, been riding since I was 32. SSing for 6 and fg for 4. I have to admit though I've been riding my geared mountain bike for the last month. It just looked so sad sitting there. Contrary to what most people experience though, my knees hurt more. I think I try to push to big of gear.
