Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

surlydura ace
The difference doesn't appear to have anything to do with the width of the cog. In the Surly photo, the lockring is flush against the cog, as it should be. In the DA photo it looks like either the lockring isn't threaded on all the way, or the lockring has a lip that is preventing it from being threaded on all the way. Surly lockrings have the same lip and the surly cog is designed to accomodate the lip. DA lockrings lack the lip and the da cogs may not be designed to accommodate the lip. If you have a DA cog with a lipped lockring, you need to turn the lockring around so the lip faces outward.

OK, I'm getting on a plane now for Xmas and New Years in Japan. Talk to you jerks later.
