SRAM 900 Single Speed Brake Levers
 

I am building up a bike and at the point where I need brake levers to keep moving on the project. I could buy cheapo levers anywhere but would rather have these:

I am having trouble finding them in stock however. Does anyone here have the scoop on where or when they will be available?

I think your problem is that you were searching for break levers, which don't exist to my knowledge.

Yeah, I searched google and all those pages list the item as "out-of-stock" or "unavailable".
There is very little information about them on the web except the SRAM website and these few stores which are all out of stock.

Not sure what you meant by brake levers not existing.

ProBikeKit appears to have a pair in stock, but it doesn't specify if the price is for a single or both. I'd call around to some of the higher-end online shops like PBK and Competitive Cyclist to see about when they may be in stock again. Also try and see if you LBS can order them. I have a feeling like they may not be too far off of internet pricing for such an item.

That must be a recent listing I don't recall seeing it before. Still I would rather not have to have them shipped from the UK. The price seems a little steep. I will try my LBS I guess.

i havent set them up, but i have red shifters, and i like the shape.

how is a $100 brake lever a good purchase? It's a rod that pivots in the middle and has a wire attached to the other end. how can It be $80 better than a $20 lever?
And I'm not just trying to be a jerk or anything. I don't have brakes on my bike, and the last bike a rode with brakes was a crappy mountain bike so I don't know about nice road levers

I have wondered the same thing about expensive brake levers, actually. What's going on here besides aesthetics?

i like the shape, and the alloy ones were 50 for me.

Honestly if you guys need to have cheap vs. high quality explained to you your not going to understand.

I know plenty about quality, I spent $1500 on my bike, just not about quality brake levers. I probably know a lot more about quality then you, not just from a bike standpoint. I spent my childhood around car shows, where nothing but perfection suffices. I have studied sound and speaker development. I can tell you all about what makes a $27,000 set of speakers better than your 5.1 sony surround sound.
But so what I understand thus far is you pay and extra $80 so the hinge doesn't develop play?

lol. i paid like 30 bucks for my cane creeks. but i do agree with the fact that you get what you pay for. and if your e-d*ck is as big as you say it is, then you should know that it comes down to installation when it comes to home audio. and $27,000 for home audio? i wouldn't even want to be home enough to get my moneys worth...

Let's also not forget weight and smoothness of operation here. How the lever interfaces with the cable could be a huge factor in creating/eliminating friction from your setup. I'd also like to point out that for something as nice as that you are paying for R&D, so the ergonomics have likely been considered a whole lot. Plus, carbon is awesome.

from my experiences with my red shifters, the forefathers of the 900s, i can say the smoothness, weight, and robustness of design is unspectacular especially for the carbon at that cost. actually, if one of these levers isnt attached to anything, it will flop around. this is about getting the saddle that fits your butt, the pedals and shoes that fit your feet, and the bars, tape, and levers that your hands like. the hood and blade shapes are great, and i want the ability to adjust lever reach.

Rats. I guess it's time to seriously look into Campy Record carbon levers. 200 dollars is perfectly reasonable to spend, right?

to me they are a lot more comfortable than tektros. i think 120 is pretty steep though, i would probably never pay that much for them.

If you know so much about quality stop being a dumb ass then. Your last sentence would be like me saying that the only difference between a Sony DVD player and a Krell is the heavey chassis. They both play CD's just like both a $20 and a $100 brake lever pull cable.

^ the difference being a lot between cd players and almost nothing between brake levers. I find it hard to believe that you can't find a $20 lever that doesn't develop play. It's just not that complex a part. You could probably have one custom made by a local machinist that is perfect to you liking for $100.

But it's whatever, I don't care if you spend unnecessary money on your bike, I know I have and will continue to do so. Just wanted to find out more about the part, not how g*y saddle up is, my bad.

the quality is satisfactory, but its the comfort thats the selling point.

I would rather pull on a bare cable end rather than drop that much on a lever.
