Platform Pedal Spike Delete

Spike on platform bad for skidz. Mashing slowed down by feet correction, also destroying the soles of my shoes. :troll:

Huh?

I think you maybe have been using your pedals upside-down.

and using a demel tool with fleece gloves?

you realize fleece will do nothing to protect you and would probably have melted onto/into your wound had you slipped.

Can you skid without Straps?

do you use a brake

ncohen 12-28-09 03:11 PM

the point of the spike is so you can get yourself into your toe clips, assuming you use them.

ive used a dremel without gloves many times. i dont recommend it, but it could quite possibly be safer than the gloves you chose.

I enjoy that the fixed gear craze is bringing new people to cycling but i think there should be a required history course and a predetermined number of mile one has to ride on a bike with friction down tubes with toe clips and another bike with brifters and clippless before your allowed to own/ride fixed gear...

Are you sure you're not one of the C&V people posting here under a fake account just to make us SSFG people look bad?

its how my dad "raised" me. i rode downtubes and cages for about a year. then bar ends and looks for about two years, and then he gave me his hand me down 105 brifters and ultegra spd pedals.

while this was all going on he would show me different bikes/frames/components at rides and races and told me all about them. i laterally lived cycling from about 7-15 years old. i'm 24 now and wished i never went on "leave" from the sport.

Am I correct that there are two threads about this?

All the awesome couldn't be contained by one thread.

ichitz 12-29-09 10:20 AM

u are correct, sir.

Brian 12-29-09 10:30 AM

It's a relief not to be the biggest noob/idiot in ss/fg.

JohnDThompson 12-29-09 12:39 PM

Those aren't "platform" pedals. They're designed to be used with toe clips and straps; that's why the tab is there -- to help flip the pedal up so you can slide your foot into the clip. Rather than mutilating a perfectly good set of pedals by grinding off the tabs, why didn't you just buy a set of real platform pedals intended to be used without foot retention?

Do you know what I think you should do? Realize this guy is a total troll and forget about it.

kyselad 12-29-09 03:07 PM

Shenanigans indeed -- how could he have mounted the pedal upside down in the first place?

Also, since when are fg bikes the pinnacle of bike ownership/maintenance? Brifters as a stepping stone on the way to fixed? Srsly?

thirdgenbird 12-29-09 03:20 PM

the pedals werent mounted upside down... his feet were placed on the bottom. pedals have axels, that rotate...

yeah brifters as a stepping stone. it will eliminate ignorance.
