Okay, so my Basso is completley disassembeled. Now begins the fun process of stripping paint and cleaning things. I need to take the immense amount of rust off the fork, so can I use one of those wire-thingys that attach to drills, then have it rechromed? Or will that scratch up the fork? And if it doesn't scratch it up, then couldn't I use that same attachement on the frame to strip the paint, or am I being a little to willy-nilly? Any help or suggestions would be great.

Emery cloth, then coarse steel wool, then fine.
Most of my frame is exposed steel, I simply coated the polished steel with clear Varathane.

Yes, you have to remove scratches if chroming.

Contact local custom car companies. Or look under 'Plating, Electroplating, Chroming' in the phone directory.
Also, these sites have caustic dip used to remove paint etc (poss rust) from metal. Also, chrome is 'one' of the platings.
I believe copper goes first over the conductive paint, then Chromium. I'd go for Nickel, weird color and VERY hard.
I dunno, this is not something I know lots about, best of luck.

Umm have you got quotes on chroming, its a very expensive process...upwards of $250. I don't think its worth it, I would just get off the rust and paint it.
