No bikes on Megabus?

Hi,

I saw some old threads about the Megabus bike policy (no bikes), but I wanted to get an updated opinion and see if anyone has had any attempts at trying to get assembled bikes into the cargo section recently. I'm taking Megabus round trip from Philadelphia to Boston, which means I'll be taking 4 separate bus trips (transferring in NYC). Do you think I should try bringing my bike? I'm extra worried I'll get denied since I have so many separate trips, but I really want my bike with me.

Thoughts? (Thanks!)

Dude's taking the Megabus. If you're taking Megabus you won't be dropping $1200 on a Sci'con Aerotech Evolution case.

I highly doubt you will be able to take your bike with you on mega bus, ive taken it a few times from nyc to boston and back, and ive seen people with big boxes get turned down. They now use double decker busses so their cargo space is pretty limited, i dont think youd even be able to fit your bike in there. You might want to try bolt bus, im not sure if they go to philly or not though. They operate standard busses and seem to always have extra space in the cargo area. That, and their staff seem a lot more understanding and nice.

I've tried it on the route from Detroit to Chicago with no luck. Thankfully my ride took the bike back to my place. Even after offering to slip the driver some cash- no go.

Why not take one of the main Chinatown busses? I have taken my bike on there from NYC to DC and back. When I lived in Boston, the busses weren't full sized and you sat with your luggage under your feet.

I don't think the cost savings is worth breaking your bike in half( i.e the bike in the picture.) Last I checked my bike doesn't function that way unless I'm really missing something.

Well yes u're absolutely right. In a haste, i didni't really check the picture. But I guess I was merely pointing out that there are bicycle cases under $1200 and they are less likely to give fuss about a case than a bicycle. But it seems as someone pointed out, megabus doesn't like big luggages either.

Not sure about megabus, but I can speak for boltbus. A bunch of us went from NYC to Philly over the summer. They said as long as we had pre-paid tickets, we could put our bikes in the storage below. It was kinda sketchy because we had 5 bikes so we had to lock them to each other so they weren't getting destroyed on the ride.

I took bolt bus from boston to nyc a few weeks ago with two friends. All of us had bikes and bought our tickets on the spot, and nobody said boo. Best bus experience I've had, will definitely use them from now on as opposed to Chinatown buses.
