new to the singlespeed/fixed thing
 

today i was given a cannondale cad3 r600. all of the components were shot, so i stripped it, with intentions of converting it to a single speed.

Eww, they left the double on, and the tape for the aero lever looks really gross uncovered too

Everything should be fine with a magic gear (or at worst a half link) just make sure your bike looks better than that.

Not only did he leave the double on, but it's clearly a Biopace.

And they're just lookin' to get that back wheel stolen.

is my rear drop out safe?

it has like a 1/4 inch lip, and that scares me....

It's safe, but if you can't get good chain tension in the absence of a deraileur, you might have to go with a chain tensioner...which everybody on here might hate you for - but it would keep your crank attached to the cog.
