new to the singlespeed/fixed thing
today i was given a cannondale cad3 r600. all of the components were shot, so i stripped it, with intentions of converting it to a single speed.

is not having horizontal drop outs going to be a problem?

I wish someone would give me a cannondale cad3
edit: Oh man thats a super ugly fork too
Everything should be fine with a magic gear (or at worst a half link) just make sure your bike looks better than that.

It's safe, but if you can't get good chain tension in the absence of a deraileur, you might have to go with a chain tensioner...which everybody on here might hate you for - but it would keep your crank attached to the cog.
