I ride this portion of my Soma 456s pretty often...it's fairly comfortable, at least compared to the drops.

When I had ergo road drops, I rode the front of the bars fairly often too.

I have my bars so that the straight part of the drops are parallel to the ground (which I believe is the correct angle for track drops). This angle slopes the "hood" position too far forward so if I were to put my hands there, my wrists wouldn't be able to handle it.

Most track cyclists (if not all of them) and road racers have a slight angle on their bars (ends pointing down). I find this more comfortable than parallel to the ground...its a more natural position. In the end, whichever works for you is what's right. Try different positions.

Actually for normal road drops I'd point them down a little bit, but since track drops (especially the eighthinch ones) tend to be a bit shorter I usually place my hands right around where the drop starts to curve upwards, giving me a slightly tilted angle (kind of like ergo drops). To each their own, I guess.

Occasionally, I'll place my hands on the outside of the top curve, palms facing forward, kind of like if I were doing curls with a barbell. It's not particularly comfortable for extended periods of time, but at least it will give my hands a break. If all else fails, I'll just sit up and ride without my hands for a little bit, as long as no one else is really around. In all honesty, the eighthinch drops and most track drops in general don't excel in the versatility department, and I can hope that all of us who purchased and use track drops do so with this in mind. I'll say this again, I spend the vast majority of my time in the drops.

Ok, I'll bite. Has anyone put drop levers on these bars? I found a set of Major Taylors at GW that I tried to put levers on and it just didn't work. I normally live on the hoods, so I'd like to keep running the same levers.

Those Eighth Inch drops don't really get along with any kind of brake levers.

These VO Porteur bars are as close to "drop" as I get:

Scrod, gorgeous frame! What is it, can't tell. Thanks.

You do realize you wont get these bars for 10$ right? You have to spend at least 50$ to use the 20$ off coupon.
