Anyone have fixed gear mileage goals for 2010?
I wish I had posted this before the new year started and got some other people interested, but what the hey. I set my personal goal this year at 10,000 miles. That averages out to just a little over 28 miles a day or 833.3 miles per month. I managed to get 850 miles in this month, which is just about right. Since it has been dark so early, I'd say half of those miles came on the rollers (with a resistance unit, so it's not like totally cheating). I really got lazy at the end of the month when I got close to the goal, though. Had I continued at the pace from earlier this month I would've had well over 1100. I haven't kept track of a per-month mileage before, except last month where I barely racked up 350. I've really enjoyed the extra time on the bike. Next month is going to be tough, with it being a short month already and I'm going to be out of town for a week. Anyway, anyone else have a goal to share?
January: 850 miles
February: 666 miles (short month for me, was out of town for 8 days so this is only for 18 days of riding)
March: 838 miles
April: 965 miles
May: 920 miles
June: 759 miles
2010 Total: 4998 (ironically that's exactly where I should be after 6 months of riding 833 miles)

I have three bikes that I ride, plus a motorcycle. Just spending more time on two wheels is my usual goal.

Shooting for about 5 hours of hard riding (frozen trails, creeks, hill rides) a week until Spring.
Hopefully some longer rides will get snuck in there, but time is an issue right now, trying to juggle work, band, skiing and a small second side job.

I dont have a goal per sea, just curious about how much I put in. I noticed I've just broken 1000 since october (when I bought a computer), not nearly as lofty as your goal. I suspect at this rate I'll probably be around 4K this time next year.

Not really. My FG is my commuter/rain training bike. I had 6100 miles last year but probably less than 1000 on the FG. My longest single ride on it was 53 miles. It'd be great to do a fixed century, but time is an issue.

I waited until mine was 2 months old to start carting him around in the trailer. He's going to be 19 soon, and is a car-free college student.

Anyways, I think you can pull more than that easy. That's like 5-10 miles everyday.

Oops, you are right. The equation is wrong. it ought to be v(t) * dt. ... dt is the infinitesimal time and v(t) the instantaneous velocity over that period. And you have to take integral over that for the duration of 1.1.2010 to 12.31.2011.
I am having perverse fun out of that.
Cool! I can see you are having so much fun! Just wait till you get to FT's. Heehee.
P.S. Darn it's been too long, I should have said v(t) = dx(t) / dt where x(t) is the your position as time t. Note we ignore the ... orientation. ... ooooo vector spaces.

I'm a full time engineering student so I tried to make it a realistic goal. There's only so much time in the day that I can ride and I can't ride every day.

You can get webbing and buckles at any fabric store. Make a custom seatbelt, and cinch it down. A trailer leaves plenty of room for your camera, snacks, and the all-important diaper bag. By twelve months, he was being taken off road, which he loved.
I think the trailer is much safer than a baby seat on a bike. No chance of falling over, and much more visible. And motorists probably assume you have a kid in there.

I'm shooting to do my usual centuries fixed this year instead of on the geared bike.
That's my goal.
