Look 596?

Now technically, my understanding of Fixed Gear/Track Bicycles is that "fixed-gear" generally refers to fixed gear bikes built for road use, while "track" generally refers to those fixed-gear bicycles that are built solely for the track (if you want to get extremely technical with it).

However, I was looking through a road cycling magazine the day for nutrition stuff, and came accross a Look 596 Frame.

Would any of you think it absurd to use this on the streets?

Its an awesome looking frame, and looks like waaaay aerodynamic.

Just wanted to know what you guys thought. Becuase I guess that I could just as much use a Windsor from BD on the track for racing as I could either a Look 596 or say a Cervelo T3.

Thoughts?

I think the question is why would you want to ride a $6K frame on the street?

If you do buy it, tell me when you go for a ride. I'd like to "meet up" and "examine" your new bike.

What are you guys smoking? That is a perfect street bike. Note the bent top tube for extra skid leverage, as well as the fork/headset designed to eliminate wheel flop during track stand competitions and an extra beefy rear triangle for wheelies.

your welcome. Haha. It was just a thought wooow. I really was intent on knowing, because there are some frames on the road that really look like they were supposed to be used exclusively on the track and not for road use? IN other words, stuff that someone woudl say "keep that **** on the track".

Cheers. Btw......im not buying it. It was just a thought that sprung to my mind damnit.

I hope whoever rides that on the street locks it out there as well....

I'm pretty sure a bike that's worth at least $6000 is a damn good enough reason to bust through any u lock, kryptonite or not; if not kill the cyclist for it

XD. Yeeeah no doubt. Lol. You can Identify that frame anywhere even if it was logoless. The frame is like trademarked XD. But it is a pretty sweet eye catching frmae.

after all the beatings, robberies, and muggings here lately, You want to go out and ride a $6k + bicycle around? A recognizable $6k bike at that? Go for it but expect to have trouble/inconvenience.

The question is not if he has the money to ride it. The question is, does he have the money to repair himself and replace his bike every time it gets stolen and he gets beat up or worse? Not one person here says for him not to ride. They all just said ride something a little less "attractive".

That bike is overkill even for regular and advanced track racers. Even most elites don't have gear like that. Only the US National team and a handful of others.

...Plus, there was a 6 month wait (& $10K) for the 496 as it was custom made carbon fiber to spec.

Try the new Look Aluminum track bike. I can't recall the model name/number. It just came out.

Here it is. The LOOK 464:

https://reviews.roadbikereview.com/bl...et-first-look/

$900 frame and fork
$1,900 complete

Not a bad option.

Bikes: too many

i'm setting up my 596 for the street. doing it up with an aerospoke front and a velocity/formula rear. wasn't sure what cranks to run, but i thought i'd spend a little more and went for pake since they come in colors and cost more than the eighth inch ones so they must be better. saw the shimano un-54 bb was a popular choice so i'm getting that installed by the shop.

I wanted to run a pearl9 stem with nitto blue risers, but the bike can't be made threaded i found out. think i'll run the stem i had from my kilo tt, and i like the soma late risers, gonna match colors to my cranks. saddle is gonna be a cool vintage rolls i got, and i'm gonna run GR-9's with mks clips and pake straps.

is this a good set up for the street? also, what color ouries should i get?
