opinions?

For what it is, the price is ok. Schwinn Cream is a few bucks cheaper though, but no full chain cover, and no rain proof brakes. There are plenty of comparable bikes that cost twice as much though.

probobly seeing how republic bikes suck(from what ive heard), this wouldnt be worth the money

Nuggetross 02-14-10 10:12 AM

that thing must weigh 40 pounds.

Great, I'm gonna buy one cuz my old Schwinn Speedster weighs 46 lbs, and every pound counts, right?

Nuggetross 02-14-10 11:17 AM

man, and i thought a 30 pound bike was heavy.

Nigal 02-14-10 03:39 PM

Just the way I like my women too; big, bulky, slow moving and sexy as hell!

AaronH 02-15-10 10:45 AM

Paint it olive drab, put a few flat black decals on it, and throw on a side car full of guns and it'd be cool.

Was thinking about buying one of these for my girlfriend....her old single speed is on its last leg. Though I wish it was coaster brake....

Metzinger 02-15-10 11:10 AM

Pros:
- it looks a bit like a Dutch bike

Cons:
- logo in frame
- chaincase is vinyl fabric stretched over a steel cage
- weighs as much as an actual Dutch bike, but lacks features like wired-in dyno and lighting

from the specs on the page "Rear hub: Coaster brake hub with 18T freewheel."

I was curious about these, too, considering how badly the bike-lover opinion goes against their fixed-gear bikes.

It's twice the cost of a Chinese 28" roadster, but in many ways better looking. Plus the shipping being included sweetens the deal a bit.

The Batavus and similar bikes have a vinyl cover to their chain cases.
(I saw a 60s Locomotief roadster in downtown Santa Cruz last month whose chaincase had a stainless zipper along the bottom!)
But it's probably not galvanized like a better Dutch bike frame, nor does it have any lighting setup.

Hmm.

My only beef is the One Size Fits All (people who are a lot shorter than me).

Coreyk 03-19-10 10:21 AM

If any one gets a good look at one of these, or better yet, a test ride, please report back.
It'd be nice to know if these have any merit as a bike. As a marketing exercise, they're genius.

Nuggetross 03-19-10 01:49 PM

someone buy this: http://www.pakebikes.com/nunubatmobile.html

robertv 03-19-10 04:59 PM

It's about time. Dutch bikes kick ass, look classy even after they're 20 years old and have paint peeling off and are damn useful.

evilcryalotmore 03-19-10 05:19 PM

This bike sucks, its formed from high tensile steel... the stiffness of the frame sucks and the welds are ****ty.

Republic bikes are a huge ripoff (considering the price). The thing is a boat anchor. You can find a bike of equal value at a garage sale for $10.

yep

REPUBLIC was a brand someone pulled out of their ass when they say how hyped up fixed gear bikes were, and made it b/c people would buy anything with bright colors these days.

LosetheBeast 03-20-10 10:20 PM

cool but possible chick bike only.

LupinIII 03-21-10 03:35 AM

arent the majority of dutch bikes hi-ten? plus, i'm pretty sure all those commuters in that hilly as hell city amsterdam really care about how heavy their bikes are. that's why all the bikes locked up there are carbon fiber rocking campy 11 right?

the republic dutch is overpriced still (and the fabric crankcase is fail), but you can't complain about a cruiser being made out of hi-ten. the sweet fixie they had was an abomination, but this dutch bike is a little more proper in execution.
